Exterior Wall Technology & Science Course information

Course Description This two-day course provides basic exterior wall technology and terminology that will be used as the fundamental base for future exterior wall course offerings. The course covers a broad range of topics, including types and functions of exterior walls, psychrometrics and moisture movement, design objectives and building code requirements, wall penetrations, materials, coatings and water repellants, and sealants. This broad course is aimed at those preparing to expand their knowledge into exterior walls and at those already practicing in this area who want to further develop their knowledge in exterior wall technology.

Learning Objectives 1. The learner will explore building code requirements for exterior walls will be covered during the course. 2. The learner will understand the proper use of coating, water repellents and sealants will be discussed during this course. 3. The learner will discuss psychrometrics and moisture movement and why moisture migration is so important in-wall design. The learner will explore building code requirements for exterior walls will be covered during the course 4. The learner will understand proper designs for wall penetrations will be covered, along with problems that are created by poor design details.

The IIBEC – PSC is pleased to announce our February dinner meeting that will include a presentation by Linda McCandless “Unlocking the Power of Modern Asphalt Shingles”

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify How Specialized Granules can make a difference in performance and to the environment.
  • Identify the Differences Between an Oxidized and Polymer Modified Asphalt and How Polymer Modified Products Can Contribute to a Healthier Environment and Longer Lifecycle when Compared to Oxidized Products.
  • Identify Substrate, Underlayment, and Ventilation Requirements and the importance of underlayment and the value of integrating a complete roofing system.
  • Understand the Importance of Certified Installers and Warranties that add value and insure the quality of the install.

 

Linda McCandless-National Specification Manager

Linda McCandless has a wealth of experience in the building products platform, holding a BA degree in Marketing and Finance, complemented by over 20 years in the exterior building envelope category.

Throughout her career, Linda has collaborated extensively with architects and the building design community, focusing on crucial aspects of the exterior envelope such as air and moisture barriers, rainscreen systems, and exterior design detailing.

Linda is now channeling her passion for rainscreen system development to the roofing sector. She is promoting comprehensive system designs for Malarkey Roofing Products within the design community, working with architects, consultants, general contractors, city planners, and developers.

While Linda is based in the Pacific Northwest, her coverage extends to all areas where Malarkey Roofing Products are sold.
