The IIBEC – PSC is pleased to announce our February dinner meeting that will include a presentation by Linda McCandless “Unlocking the Power of Modern Asphalt Shingles”
Learning Objectives:
- Identify How Specialized Granules can make a difference in performance and to the environment.
- Identify the Differences Between an Oxidized and Polymer Modified Asphalt and How Polymer Modified Products Can Contribute to a Healthier Environment and Longer Lifecycle when Compared to Oxidized Products.
- Identify Substrate, Underlayment, and Ventilation Requirements and the importance of underlayment and the value of integrating a complete roofing system.
- Understand the Importance of Certified Installers and Warranties that add value and insure the quality of the install.

Linda McCandless-National Specification Manager
Linda McCandless has a wealth of experience in the building products platform, holding a BA degree in Marketing and Finance, complemented by over 20 years in the exterior building envelope category.
Throughout her career, Linda has collaborated extensively with architects and the building design community, focusing on crucial aspects of the exterior envelope such as air and moisture barriers, rainscreen systems, and exterior design detailing.
Linda is now channeling her passion for rainscreen system development to the roofing sector. She is promoting comprehensive system designs for Malarkey Roofing Products within the design community, working with architects, consultants, general contractors, city planners, and developers.
While Linda is based in the Pacific Northwest, her coverage extends to all areas where Malarkey Roofing Products are sold.

October 9th Dinner Meeting and Presentation
Presentation: Lessons Learned from Electronic Leak Detection and Continuous Monitoring | October 9, 2025 | AIA, IIBEC Registered- 1 Learning Unit
This presentation will cover the lessons learned from multiple case studies regarding Electronic Leak Detection (ELD) quality control testing as part of new construction, forensic testing in existing buildings with active leaks, and continuous monitoring for conventional roofing. Participants will learn about principles outlined in the ASTM Standard Guide D7877 and ASTM Standard Practice D8231 and will be able to identify common causes for moisture intrusion.
Learning Objections: 1. Understand the science, capabilities and limitations of ELD as outlined in ASTM Standard Guide D7877 and ASTM Standard Practice D8231.
2. Recognize common causes of failures found in numerous types of roofing and waterproofing membranes.
3. Identify potential future design and construction failures based on analyzed data from real time construction monitoring.
4. Distinguish different applications for ELD testing and continuous moisture monitoring for risk mitigation and loss control.

Presenter: Shaun Katz, CSI | Detec Systems administration.
Katz has assisted facility/property managers and building owners, contractors, architects, engineers, consultants, and manufacturers with forensic leak investigation, as well as leak detection in new construction. He has performed ELD product demos and presentations worldwide and won the 2020 Presenter of the Year award from the Chicago Chapter of IIBEC. Katz is an active member of CSI, ASTM, and IIBEC. His goal is to provide a basic understanding of ELD and assist all parties with ensuring valid and conclusive ELD.

Great turnout and team effort lead by Alex Murphy! Thank you Pravat, Gage, Andrew and Elizabeth. WE tried a new golf course. ‘Redmond Ridge’ and the staff and the course were absolutely fabulous!
