This course is an introduction to the use of Portland Cement Plaster (Stucco) as an exterior cladding system applied to both commercial and residential buildings. Participants will be introduced to relevant codes and standards, system layers, components and recent advances.

HSW Justification:
This seminar will discuss: Designs of State-of-the-art moisture, air, thermal and vapor control layers of today’s stucco assemblies. Designs that are intended to help protect the building from unwanted moisture accumulation, material degradation that can reduce the potential for conditions that can lead to mold growth.

Learning Objective 1:
Participants will be presented a review of ICC I-Codes and ASTM Standards applicable to the design and construction of stucco assemblies.

Learning Objective 2:
Participants will learn about the materials and layers of stucco assemblies. How the layers are intended to function, and how they are properly constructed.

Learning Objective 3:
Participants will gain an understanding of the building science behind advanced stucco assemblies.

Learning Objective 4:
Participants will be presented design information on advanced stucco assemblies and how they can meet performance and energy code requirements of the ICC I-Codes

Pete Burns has over 30 years of experience in architectural testing and inspections. As a former Technical Representative for the Energy Conservatory, manufacturer of the

Minneapolis Blower Door, Pete provided technical field support and training on residential and commercial enclosure air leakage testing.

Pete is currently the Director of Technical Services for the NW Wall & Ceiling Bureau (NWCB) a

technical trade association of signatory commercial wall & ceiling contractors in Washington and Oregon.

The NWCB is best known for publishing the Stucco Resource Guide since 1979, now in its 4^th Edition.

Edward R. Krusec, AIA, IIBEC, CSI is the Director of OEM Sales, at Hunter Panels. Prior to his 36 years in the roofing industry, Ed, a registered architect, worked in the Chicago office of Skidmore Owings and Merrill. First joining Hunter Panels in 2002 as the Midwest Regional Sales Manager Ed has been has held numerous positions including product manager, technical manager and director of business development. Ed offices out of Hunter’s headquarters in Portland Maine; and has spoken nationally to AIA, CSI, and IIBEC chapters, as well as roofing industry associations, regarding proper roofing assemblies, practices, and the values of proper drainage in tapered roof assemblies.

Bob Card RRO RBEC Bob is a senior consultant and principal of Wetherholt and Associates, Inc., Redmond, WA and is a past president of IIBEC. He is a founding member of the Puget Sound and Portland Chapters of IIBEC, has been a regular presenter of IIBEC educational throughout the US and Western Canada. He has participated in development and revision of numerous IIBEC education courses, credentialing examsAndre Coppin, Architect, RRO, RRC Andre is the Building Envelope Principal at Cornerstone Architectural Group. After graduating from Western Washington University in 1999, Andre taught computer aided drafting and design, physics and math at a polytechnic for 5 years. Currently, Andre is responsible for building envelope strategies for new construction, historic building renovations and a wide range of reroofing, waterproofing and envelope projects. In addition to his duties, Andre is the lead designer for building envelope projects. Aaron Nelson RRO, RRC, RWC Aaron, is the President of Roofing Technical Services located in Stanwood, WA.  Aaron worked as an estimator/project manager for 10-years. In 2004 Aaron joined the consulting side of roofing and started on working on projects across the nation. Aaron and the team at RTS provide consulting and quality assurance observations for our clients on projects large and small. Brad Kaye, RRO, RRC Brad is a highly skilled and experienced roof consultant with 16 years of expertise in the roofing industry. He started off as a registered roof observer and quickly worked his way up the ranks, eventually becoming a registered roof consultant. Throughout his career, Brad has worked on a wide range of roofing projects, including residential, commercial, and industrial buildings, including various aspects of roofing, such as design, installation observation and forensics.
